 Avidemux 2.4

Overview
Avidemux is an open source video editing program that can handle many file types, fom avi and mpeg to flv.

Review
I have been using VirtualDub for basic video editing jobs for years, a very reliable program. I was quite disappointed however by the lack of progress in the program development, so when one of my readers, Evan, told me that he found Avidemux very good I decided to test it. Evan said sometinkg like this:
You can edit .FLV directly, and tons of other formats too, even Windows Media Center recordings (DVRMS files). You can slice and dice video, change the audio, change the delay of audio in a video, and append video to video. Honestly, I couldn’t live without it, and it is updated constantly. Very easy and intuitive to use, there is NO learning curve even for a video newbie such as myself.

I’m not that sure that video newbies can learn to use Avidemux immediately, but I believe the process could be quite easy. Avidemux is not very complicated to use for basic tasks like cutting pieces out of a video file. And if you get lost you can always get support in the forums.

The stong point of the program is the input and output formats that it supports, quite enough for any computer user. As input formats it supports even Mpeg Transport Stream files (.ts), Matroska, ASF or QuickTime files along with the obvious support for avi files. The output formats can also vary from avi or flv to Mp4 or Mpeg.

You can also apply various filters to your video, like color filters or deinterlace filters, mux or demux subtitles, append video. Solid open source program overall, one of the great ones.
